Homemade Sausage Rolls

If you caught my Easter IG stories you saw the variety of appetizers I made which includes these delightful sausage rolls. They always remind me of my dad because they are his absolute favorite. So it was no surprise he was a happy camper when I made them for our Easter get together. I was surprised just how easy they were to make, only requiring 4 ingredients. Needless to say I’ll be making them again!

Ingredients for sausage rolls:

puff pastry
1 llbs ground sausage meat
1/4 cup bread crumbs
2 eggs
1/4 cup milk

Note on the ground meat- I used ground sweet Italian sausage from Michael-Angelo’s in Aurora. You can also get ground chicken or pork and season it yourself. Or buy sausage, slice the skin and squeeze out the meat.

How to make sausage rolls:

Preheat oven to 400F

Let the puff pastries defrost according to instructions and then roll out into a thin rectangle. Slice it in half so you have two long thin rectangles. Place the meat along the middle of each rectangle. Crack your egg in a yolk bowl, whisk and mix with milk. Brush the inside of the pastry with the egg mixture. 

Fold over one side of the pastry over to meat then continue to roll. You can bake as is or slice into smaller pieces. Brush the outside with the remaining egg yolk mixture before putting in the oven for 20-25 minutes. 

Once they are ready, they will be a nice golden color. Let them cool down for a few minutes before serving.
