Homemade Lettuce Wraps
Lettuce wraps are one of my favorite dishes to order when I go to Dynasty in Yorkville – definitely one of my top picks for Chinese food in Toronto! I probably order the lettuce wraps every time so I figured why not try to recreate it in my own kitchen. The results – well I was certainly impressed! Learn how to make them below.
Ingredients for Homemade Lettuce Wraps:
1 package ground chicken
2 celery sticks
1 red pepper
2 cups button mushrooms
2 sprigs green onion
1 teaspoon minced garlic
1 teaspoon grated ginger
2 tbs Sriracha
1 tbs soya sauce
1 tbs sesame oil
salt and pepper
Hoison sauce for serving
How to make Homemade Lettuce Wraps:
Start by dicing all of your veggies into small pieces (pepper, green onion, zucchini, mushrooms, celery). In a large wok set to high heat, add olive oil and start cooking the ground chicken. I like to sear the meat a bit to get some brown color and then turn the wok to a medium temperature. As the chicken is cooking add the garlic, ginger, salt and pepper. Stir the mixture around to break up the ground chicken into small pieces.
About 4-5 minutes in you can add the veggie mixture to the wok. Continue to cook until all the meat and veggies are cooked. Once cooked you can add the Sriracha, soya sauce and sesame oil. Give everything a stir to coat the ingredients with the sauce.
Next you need to prepare the lettuce wraps. Wash the iceberg lettuce and separate it to create ‘wraps’ with the lettuce leaves. Pour hoisin sauce into a serving dish and the chicken veggie mixture into another serving dish. Put everything on the table for your guests (or you) to assemble!
I like to spread a little bit of hoisin sauce on the lettuce and then top it off with two tablespoons of the mixture.
